"Line Budding"

A small percentage of Americans and political leaders have adopted a philosophy for illegal immigration that is comparable to "line budding" with a twist.  Most of us have experienced line budding. Someone who thinks they are in a bigger hurry than you assumes they have the right to step in front of you to do whatever you are waiting to do before you do it, even though you've been waiting longer and according to the common rules of courtesy. You feel cheated somehow.

Now let's consider a serious case of line budding. You're waiting in line to ride the Ferris wheel with your kids and five teenagers bud in line ahead of you. They get up to the ride master and have no tickets. The ride master, instead of sending them out to get tickets as he should, feels sorry for them and lets them on the ride.  "Outrageous," you say? This is exactly how amnesty supporters feel about illegal aliens. Those waiting in line are the millions who have lawfully applied to enter the United States. They've dotted all the "i"s and crossed all the "t"s in the myriad of paperwork. They've lived as good citizens of their country, are in good health, have sponsors awaiting them, have planned ahead so they will not be a burden to the citizens of their new nation. They are the law abiding and respecting folks that make up the bulk of new immigrants. One day they hope to become citizens of the great country known as the United States of America. They dream of that day when they, too, will be able to call themselves, "an American." The others who budded in line? They filled out no paperwork. They did not wait in line with others, they did not plan ahead with respect to American laws. They simply disregarded the law as they coveted the prize of gaining opportunities of Americans, making more money, receiving benefits, being rewarded for hard work. They failed, however, to grasp the most coveted prize of embracing the laws and attitudes of true, patriotic Americans, who live the ideals of this nation.

"No pain, no gain," is an adage used in sports and business that also applies to immigration. Without the pain and difficulty in obtaining the prize, the prize is less valuable and meaningful. All things in life worth obtaining are worth waiting for and working for. To skip the proper steps devalues the prize and is akin to cheating. We all know that someone who cheats on a test does not really know the material nor deserve the high grade they receive. Do we also realize that they are cheating someone else out of a placement rightfully obtained by hard work, time, and effort? They negatively affect others by their cheating: the teacher, the other students, those that will hire them in the future, not to mention how they devalue their own lives by their immoral behavior.

So next time you see the hard working "undocumented worker" remember the line budder without a ticket. It's hard work to bud in line. You have to jump the fence, put up with the cries of the indignant, con the ticket master, but in the end, you are still a cheater.
